Nebraska to get ICE detention facility nicknamed ‘Cornhusker Clink’

The Trump administration has been ramping up efforts to crack down on illegal immigration by building new migrant detention centers across the country. One of the latest facilities to open is in southwest Nebraska, aptly nicknamed the “Cornhusker Clink.”

This new facility, located around 200 miles from the state capital of Lincoln, is part of a push to add thousands of new beds for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The Cornhusker Clink joins other facilities like “Alligator Alcatraz” and “Speedway Slammer” in increasing ICE detention space for illegal aliens awaiting deportation or in deportation proceedings.

The decision to expand detention centers comes as ICE arrests have decreased, but removals have increased. The Cornhusker Clink now combines 200 new beds with the existing 280 at the Work Ethic Camp in McCook, which originally opened as a prison in 2001.

Nebraska Governor Kristi Noem emphasized the importance of cracking down on illegal immigration, warning that those in the region could find themselves at Cornhusker Clink if they are in the country illegally. She urged individuals to avoid arrest and self-deport using the CBP Home App.

President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” provided funding for 80,000 new beds for ICE, leading to an increase in detention facilities nationwide. Facilities like “Alligator Alcatraz” in Florida and the East Montana Detention Center in El Paso have opened to accommodate thousands of migrants.

In addition to the new facility, the National Guard in Nebraska is also assisting ICE officials in enforcing immigration laws, with around 20 soldiers involved in the effort. Governor Pillen expressed support for Trump’s immigration crackdown, stating that he was pleased to help federal partners protect the homeland by housing criminal illegal aliens.

As the Trump administration continues to intensify its crackdown on illegal immigration, the opening of the Cornhusker Clink is just one example of the efforts being made to secure the country’s borders and enforce immigration laws.
