A military vehicle belonging to the D.C. National Guard was involved in a collision with a civilian car in Washington’s Capitol Hill neighborhood on Wednesday morning, according to a report by Fox News Digital.
The incident occurred amidst President Donald Trump’s recent efforts to crack down on crime in Washington. President Trump had announced plans on August 11 to deploy troops from the D.C. National Guard and federalize the Metropolitan Police Department in order to address rising crime rates in the nation’s capital.
Washington’s fire department confirmed that the crash resulted in minor injuries for one individual involved. The crash took place at the intersection of 8th Street and North Carolina Ave SE.
The D.C. National Guard acknowledged that one of its mine-resistant ambush protected all-terrain vehicles (MATV) was part of the collision and stated that an investigation into the matter is currently underway.
President Trump has mobilized 800 D.C. National Guard troops as part of his initiative to combat crime in Washington. Several other states have also pledged to send their National Guard troops to support the administration’s efforts in reducing crime.
