A display of defensive dedication was evident as CF Montreal and DC United battled to a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Stade Saputo on Saturday evening.

Jackson Hopkins opened the scoring for DC United (4-15-8) in the 28th minute, while Luca Petrasso equalized in the 41st minute for Montreal (4-15-8), who continue to struggle with only one regulation victory in 16 games.

Despite dominating possession in the early stages of the Major League Soccer match, Montreal found it challenging to break through DC’s compact midfield block. Both teams had limited chances, with each goalkeeper making crucial saves.

DC United struck first just before the half-hour mark when Hopkins pounced on a loose ball in midfield. Driving forward, he unleashed a powerful shot into the top corner, beyond the reach of goalkeeper Thomas Gillier.

In search of an immediate response, Montreal pushed forward and found the equalizer five minutes before halftime. Prince Owusu initiated a counterattack after winning the ball deep in DC’s half, setting up Petrasso for a clinical finish.

The second half saw Montreal continue to dominate possession, while DC remained resolute in defense. Montreal created several chances in the second half, including a disallowed goal from Owusu due to offside, but they were unable to find the winning goal.
