Union rejects the latest range of Dalhousie as a rally planned

The Dalhousie Faculty Association Rejects University’s Offer

The Dalhousie Faculty Association (DFA) has voted to reject an offer from the university board of directors, according to association president Dave Westwood. The vote, which took place on Thursday evening, saw a record 93.4 percent of DFA membership participating.

Westwood stated that the results of the vote send a clear message that members are willing to stay the course and that the board must return to the table with a new offer that they will seriously consider. In response to the rejected offer, the association has announced a Lockout Rally scheduled for Friday at noon.

Following the rejection of the offer, the university has closed nearly 1,000 positions including professors, instructors, librarians, and professional counselors. The most recent offer from the university included a 2 percent increase per year in a three-year agreement, along with continuous increases in career development and promotions.

In a letter to students, Wanda Costen, Provost and Vice President of Academics at Dalhousie, assured students that more communication about the lockout would be provided in the coming days. She also mentioned that if the disruption of autumn classes is likely, students will be informed about which classes will continue and which will be suspended until the lockout is resolved.

Please continue to check for updates as the situation unfolds, and be prepared for any changes that may affect your schedule. The university remains open and operational, and efforts are being made to reach a resolution that would end the lockout swiftly with minimal disruption to students.
