Vice President JD Vance is embarking on a visit to a pivotal battleground state on Thursday, as part of his ongoing efforts to promote the comprehensive GOP-crafted domestic policy package that was narrowly passed by the Republican-controlled Congress earlier this summer.

However, Vance’s visit to a steel-fabricating facility in Wisconsin coincides with President Donald Trump’s call for Republicans to rebrand their campaign to promote the extensive tax cuts and spending measure, which has not garnered widespread support among Americans.

The vice president is scheduled to deliver a speech at a steel fabrication facility in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Additionally, he will engage in an interview with Fox News’ Will Cain, with excerpts from the conversation airing at 4pm ET on “The Will Cain Show.”

Over the past month, Vance has been advocating for the measure, known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” during visits to his home state of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. These four states are set to play a crucial role in the 2026 midterm elections, where the GOP aims to maintain its House and Senate majorities.

“President Trump is the primary advocate for the ‘Working Class Family Tax Cuts’ with Vance serving as his emissary,” a longtime Trump adviser revealed to Fox News on Thursday.

Vance’s endeavors are part of a broader promotional campaign by Republicans this summer to champion the package, which was signed into law by Trump at the White House on July 4.

For several months, Trump has been extolling his “Big Beautiful Bill,” but during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, he acknowledged the challenge in communicating the merits of the legislation to the public.

“I’m moving away from the term ‘great, big, beautiful’ – while it worked for approval, it doesn’t effectively convey the essence of the bill,” Trump remarked.

He characterized the package as a “significant tax cut for workers.”

President Donald Trump, alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio, left, and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, right, speaks during a Cabinet meeting in the Cabinet Room of the White House in Washington, Aug. 26, 2025.

The legislation encompasses Trump’s campaign promises from 2024 and second-term priorities concerning tax cuts, immigration, defense, energy, and the debt limit.

It includes the extension of the president’s signature 2017 tax cuts – originally set to expire later this year – and the elimination of taxes on tips and overtime pay.

The modification in branding acknowledged by Trump has been mirrored in Vance’s portrayal of the legislation.

MESSAGING CONFLICT OVER “BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL” INTENSIFIES

During his previous visits on the tour, he referred to the package as the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” However, during his recent stop in Georgia, the vice president repeatedly termed the measure as the “Working Families Tax Cut.”

“We firmly believe that if you’re putting in hard work every single day, the government should make it easier for you, not harder,” stated the vice president during his visit to Georgia, emphasizing the tax cuts in the legislation.

The legislation also allocates significant funds for border security and enshrines the president’s extensive and contentious immigration enforcement.

The new law also revamps Medicaid – the nearly 60-year-old federal program offering health coverage to approximately 71 million low-income Americans.

The alterations to Medicaid as well as reductions in food stamps, another crucial safety net program, were formulated in part to offset the cost of extending Trump’s tax cuts. The legislation introduces a myriad of new regulations, including work requirements for many individuals seeking Medicaid coverage.

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that the new law could lead to around 10 million people losing health coverage and add $3.4 trillion to the nation’s already substantial federal deficit.

Democrats have consistently criticized Republicans for the alterations to social safety net programs. They argue that the changes will devastate Medicaid, resulting in the closure of rural hospitals and nursing homes.

“Rural hospitals were already teetering on the edge of collapse under Donald Trump, and now he has dealt the final blow with his billionaire budget bill,” asserted Democratic National Committee (DNC) chair Ken Martin.

Nonetheless, Vance and Republicans have pushed back against these claims. The vice president contended last week that the CBO’s projections were “absolutely outrageous” and that the modifications in healthcare within the legislation were geared towards “removing illegal aliens from the country to safeguard healthcare for American families in need.”

While defending against Democratic criticisms of the alterations to social safety nets, Republicans are also taking an offensive stance by targeting Democrats for voting against tax cuts.

“Republicans, in collaboration with President Trump, have taken steps to make America more affordable, passing a Working Families Tax Cut that saves families thousands annually. Additionally, no tax on tips and a tax reduction on Social Security benefit workers and seniors,” stated a narrator in ads released last month by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC).

Moreover, recent commercials from One Nation, a public policy organization aligned with Senate Majority Leader John Thune, highlighted that “America is thriving again, thanks to President Trump and Leader John Thune’s Working Family tax cuts. No tax on tips or overtime. Genuine relief for every hardworking American.”

Republican lawmakers facing challenging re-elections next year are being singled out by Republicans for opposing the tax cuts. The NRCC disclosed on Thursday that new internal polling in battleground states “favors Republicans with a definitive messaging advantage.”

Democrats refute the GOP’s messaging.

“There is nothing beneficial in this legislation for hard-working Americans. Let’s be clear, this bill is a gift to the wealthiest individuals in our country,” asserted Martin in a Fox News Digital interview last month.

“We welcome this debate, as it will enable us, as a Democratic Party, to reassemble our coalition and secure victories in elections,”
