Community Theater plays praised

The Front Row Center Society’s production of La Cage Aux Folles was a shining star at this year’s Community Theater Awards. The 22nd annual Cat Awards celebrated excellence in community theater, with La Cage Aux Folles taking home the prize for Outstanding Musical.
Fred Amdur was honored for his direction of La Cage Aux Folles, while Chelsea Wellman and Mike Jarzecki received recognition for their musical direction. Katie Bernardo’s choreography also earned her a well-deserved award. In addition to these individual accolades, La Cage Aux Folles was praised for its costume and lighting designs.
Meanwhile, Steel Magnolias from Morpheus Theater was another big winner at the awards ceremony. The play received accolades for its production, direction, and stagecraft, with Angela Woodard, Harlan Sterner, and Margaret Harper all being recognized for their contributions. Steel Magnolias also received praise for its ensemble work.
Other notable winners included the production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, which was awarded for the best ensemble work in a musical. Megan Baldry was honored for her lead performance in Full Circle, while Ray Dhaliwal received recognition for his portrayal of Lieutenant Columbo in Recipe: Murder.
