Mandatory water restriction order issued for some West Hants residents

A mandatory water restriction order has been put in place for residents utilizing municipal water services in West Hants Regional Municipality. The order, which was enacted on Thursday, prohibits the use of water for various activities such as watering lawns or flowers, using sprinklers, bathing/washing pets and livestock, cleaning driveways, sidewalks, houses, and vehicles, as well as filling swimming pools and hot tubs.
This restriction comes as a result of drought conditions, decreased levels in watersheds, and the absence of significant precipitation in the extended weather forecast. The municipality issued a notice stating that individuals who fail to comply with the order may face suspension of their water service. The order will remain in effect until further notice.
Throughout the summer, many parts of the province have been experiencing drought conditions. West Hants is just one of several municipalities that have implemented water restrictions. Other areas with voluntary or mandatory restrictions include Margaretsville, Antigonish, the Municipality of Colchester, Stewiacke, Stellarton, the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth, Queens, and the Halifax Regional Municipality.
Residents are urged to adhere to the water restriction order to conserve this vital resource during the ongoing dry conditions. It is essential for everyone to do their part in conserving water to ensure there is enough for essential needs and to help mitigate the impact of the drought on the community.
