Georgia Governor Brian Kemp announced on Friday that the state will be sending over 300 National Guard members to Washington, D.C. to support President Donald Trump’s efforts to restore “public safety.”

Governor Kemp expressed his pride in standing with the Trump administration in their mission to ensure the security and beauty of the nation’s capital. He emphasized the commitment to upholding public safety and thanked the brave Guardsmen and women for their dedication to service above self.

The administration requested the troops from Georgia to relieve those already stationed in the capital, with the troops scheduled to mobilize in mid-September.

Georgia now joins seven other states in sending troops to support Trump’s mission, including Louisiana, Mississippi, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
