Ada Guan Wanted on Canada-Wide Warrant After Failing to Appear in Court

WARNING: This story contains details of child abuse.

Ada Guan, the woman convicted of manslaughter in her five-year-old daughter’s death in Ottawa, is now wanted on a Canada-wide warrant after failing to appear in court multiple times in preparation for sentencing.

Chloe Guan-Branch, 5, tragically passed away in May 2020, after suffering abuse and neglect. She had a bladder rupture about a week before her death and did not receive medical care.

Guan’s boyfriend, Justin Cassie-Berube, was also convicted in Chloe’s death and sentenced to 14 years in prison for criminal negligence causing death, failing to provide the necessaries of life, assault causing bodily harm, and assault.

Legal Proceedings

Guan pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Superior Court, acknowledging her failure to provide the necessary care for her daughter. The sentencing was expected to take place a few months after her plea.

However, Guan failed to appear in court for multiple scheduled hearings, prompting concerns about her whereabouts. Her lawyer cited intimate partner violence-related trauma as a factor that may mitigate her guilt.

Current Status

Despite several adjournments and rescheduled hearings, Guan did not show up for her court appearances. Her lawyer expressed difficulty in contacting her and confirmed that she had not heard from Guan since late June.

As a result, a Canada-wide bench warrant has been issued for Guan’s arrest at the request of the Crown.

Background

Chloe Guan-Branch’s birth in 2015 garnered international attention as she was born aboard a plane during a flight from Vancouver to Japan, unbeknownst to her parents. Child welfare authorities removed her from her parents’ care when she was three months old, and she was reunited with Guan three years later.

Tragically, Chloe’s health deteriorated under Guan’s care, leading to her untimely death in 2020. Both Guan and Cassie-Berube were charged in connection with her death and released on bail.

The world of technology is constantly evolving, and with each passing day, new advancements are being made that have the potential to revolutionize the way we live and work. From artificial intelligence to virtual reality, there is no shortage of exciting developments on the horizon.

One of the most intriguing technologies currently making waves is blockchain. Originally created as the underlying technology behind cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, blockchain has since grown into a powerful tool with a wide range of applications beyond just digital currencies.

At its core, blockchain is a decentralized, distributed ledger that securely records transactions across a network of computers. This means that every transaction is verified by multiple parties, making it virtually impossible to tamper with or alter the data. As a result, blockchain technology is often touted for its transparency, security, and efficiency.

While blockchain is most commonly associated with cryptocurrencies, its potential goes far beyond just financial transactions. In fact, blockchain has the ability to revolutionize a wide range of industries, from healthcare to supply chain management.

In the healthcare sector, blockchain technology has the potential to streamline processes, improve data security, and enhance patient care. By securely storing and sharing patient records across a decentralized network, healthcare providers can ensure that sensitive information is protected and easily accessible when needed.

In the supply chain industry, blockchain can help track the movement of goods from manufacturer to consumer, ensuring that products are authentic and have not been tampered with. This level of transparency can help reduce fraud and counterfeiting, ultimately leading to a more efficient and trustworthy supply chain.
