Canada’s Auger-Aliassime eliminated by top-ranked Sinner in U.S. Open semifinal

Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime’s U.S. Open dream run came to an end in disappointment as he fell to the No. 1 player in the world, Italian Jannik Sinner, in the semifinals on Friday night in New York.

Sinner, the defending U.S. Open champion, put up a strong performance to secure a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over the Montreal native. Sinner will now face No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz in the final on Sunday, after Alcaraz defeated Novak Djokovic 6-4, 7-6 (4), 6-2 earlier in the day.

The matchup between Sinner and Alcaraz will determine the winner of the U.S. Open, with both players having won the last seven Grand Slam titles between them. Regardless of the outcome, Sinner and Alcaraz will have swept all four majors in the past two years by the end of Sunday’s final.

Sinner expressed his excitement about the upcoming final, calling it a “very special day” and “a very amazing final again.” This will mark Sinner’s fifth consecutive title match at a Grand Slam, showcasing his dominance in the sport.

The semifinal match against Auger-Aliassime saw Sinner deliver a strong performance, particularly in the third and fourth sets. Despite a valiant effort from Auger-Aliassime, Sinner’s consistent play and strategic moves ultimately secured his win.

Alcaraz’s victory over Djokovic was another highlight of the day, with the young player showcasing his athleticism and creativity on the court. Djokovic, a 24-time major champion, was unable to overcome Alcaraz’s determination and skill, leading to his exit in the semifinals.

As the U.S. Open final approaches, all eyes will be on the matchup between Sinner and Alcaraz. With both players in top form, fans can expect an exciting and competitive final as they battle for the championship title.
