Woman dead after police say truck going the wrong way hits car on Edmonton bridge
EDMONTON – A woman is dead and several other people were seriously injured when police say a pickup truck that was traveling the wrong way across a bridge in Edmonton collided with an SUV.
City police say the Dodge Ram truck was traveling north in southbound lanes on Wayne Gretzky Drive early Sunday when it narrowly missed a collision with a southbound police patrol car.
The truck then immediately crashed into an Audi Q5 that was driving behind the patrol car.
The 21-year-old female passenger of the Audi was pronounced dead by paramedics, while the 31-year-old driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital in critical condition.
Paramedics also transported the 23-year-old male suspected driver of the Ram truck to hospital in critical condition, while his 21-year-old female passenger was also taken to hospital with what appeared to be serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
Police claim speed and limitations were factors in the collision and say their Major Collision Investigations Section has taken over the investigation.
