Power outage at Calgary airport results in travel delays, passenger frustration

Multiple flights from Calgary International Airport were delayed on Tuesday due to a temporary power outage that began earlier that afternoon.

The Calgary Airport Authority said on social media around 2 p.m. that a temporary power cut affected the baggage system and the International Terminal Building.

It later said “all flights” were delayed and asked guests to check with airlines about flight information.

A number of passengers took to social media and posted about the robbery, with some saying they were trapped in planes on the tarmac for hours.

“This is insane,” Kamran Aslam wrote on Twitter. “Doesn’t this airport have backup generators for emergency power and some sort of business continuity plan?”

Before 6 p.m., the airport authority warned travelers that power had been restored.

“We are working with our airline partners to address delays in unloading and boarding,” it said on Twitter

“As we work to resume regular operations, we kindly ask guests to check with their airline for up-to-date flight information. We thank guests for their patience.”
