Canadian wildfires are sending smoke south, triggering air quality warnings
Canadian wildfires continue to send heavy clouds of smoke southward from Northern Ontario and Quebec, across both provinces and into the US.
The thick haze has prompted air quality warnings for Chicago, Detroit and Toronto.
The trio of cities currently hold three of the top four spots on Air-IQ’s global poor air quality rankings.
As of this morning, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates tops the list of major cities with a significant score of 411, placing its air quality in the “Hazardous” category. Detroit ranks second, followed by Chicago and Toronto fourth, with a score of 159 “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.”
Still, some of Southern Ontario’s smaller communities are faring much worse, with Sarnia scoring 372, as of 3:30am, a score that puts the city not far behind Dubai. Air-IQ updates its numbers every hour.
Tuesday afternoon there were 66 active fires in Northern Ontario and this morning there were 76 fires burning in Quebec.
