Trudeau tweets to Taylor Swift asking her to come to Canada

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appears to be a secret Swiftie, after he tweeted an invitation to superstar Taylor Swift to ask her to bring her Eras tour to Canada

Swift announced on Wednesday that she is adding another 14 European and UK stops to her career-spanning concert series, with special guest Paramore.

So far there are no Canadian dates for her international tour that will take Swift across Mexico, Europe, Asia and Australia over the next year.

Trudeau responded to Swift’s tweet with paraphrased lyrics from her own songs, posting, “It’s me, hello. I know places in Canada are eager to have you. So don’t make it another cruel summer. We hope to see you soon. “

Swift’s disapproval of Canada has made its way into the House of Commons, where Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux said last month he would make an “official” complaint “on behalf of all Swifties” in the country.

Neither Swift nor her management have commented on the decision to skip Canada.

This report from The Canadian Press was first published on July 5, 2023.
