Lockeport man arrested, charged for driving around with shotgun, uttering threats

SHELBURNE, N.S. — A Lockeport man who threatened to shoot people in the Shelburne area on Friday, Oct. 6 has been arrested to appear before Yarmouth Provincial Court judge.

RCMP officers responded to a report of a 19-year-old man driving around with a shotgun and uttering threats at about 10 p.m.

Police learned that the suspect, Carter Morash, had made the threats following a dispute with a 27-year-old Lockeport man. The suspect also tried to use his vehicle to strike a young woman during the dispute.

In less than an hour, police found Morash in his grey Honda Civic on West Green Harbour Road. He was safely arrested and reportedly failed a roadside screening test. Breath samples at the detachment were also allegedly over the legal limit.

Officers said they also found the shotgun in question, a replica pistol, ammunition and a baseball bat.

Morash, 19, was held in custody and appeared in Yarmouth provincial court on Oct. 10 to face the following charges:

  • Uttering threats (4 counts)
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Attempted assault with a weapon (3 counts)
  • Impaired operation of a conveyance
  • Impaired operation of a conveyance equal to, or over, 80 mg per cent
  • Dangerous operation of a conveyance
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (3 counts)
  • Possession of ammunition for a dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle (2 counts)
  • Careless transportation of a firearm
  • Careless transportation of ammunition
