Nova Scotia Nurses’ Union comes to agreement with Victorian Order of Nurses

HALIFAX, N.S. — The Nova Scotia Nurses’ Union and the Victorian Order of Nurses have come to terms on a tentative agreement.
Announced on Dec. 14, the deal covers roughly 900 nurses working in the community care sector who were bargaining to improve work-life issues and competitive wages and benefits.
Details of the agreement will not be publicized until the deal is ratified by all members.
“I am proud of what our bargaining team accomplished, VON nurses themselves,” said NSNU president Janet Hazelton. “They understand the difficulties of working on the road, and the complexities of the care they provide, and the solidarity it took to communicate their concerns and needs to their employer,”
If the contract is accepted, the wage settlement will be retroactive from Nov. 1, 2020, and will expire on Oct. 31, 2025.
The union will conduct ratification voting in the coming days and voting results will be made public after the vote count.
