Suspected arrested after crashing vehicle while trying to flee police

A 47-year-old man is expected in Dartmouth provincial court Wednesday afternoon in connection with a stabbing at a motel in Dartmouth early Wednesday morning.

Const. John MacLeod said the police were called to Lake City Motel on Lake Crest Drive just after 3 a.m., where a man staying there had been stabbed.

The 30-year-old victim was taken to hospital with injuries that were initially described as life-threatening. MacLeod said later that the man is expected to survive.

The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, which was later spotted on Wyse Road. The driver sped off and crashed in Farrell Street Park. He was taken to hospital to be checked out, but was not injured.

MacLeod said the suspect and the victim are known to one another.

Police were still at both scenes later in the morning, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
