Disabled Colorado dog’s wheelchair stolen

Senior Pet’s Stolen Wheelchair Replaced Thanks to Community Support

Englewood, Colo. – Caring for a senior pet can be challenging, especially when mobility becomes an issue. Megan Caligiuri, a resident of Englewood, was devastated to discover that her dog Griff’s wheelchair had been stolen from her porch. Griff, a rescued schnauzer mix, has been by Megan’s side for nearly 15 years, accompanying her on various adventures across the country. As Griff’s hind legs weakened with age, Megan purchased a dog wheelchair to help him move around comfortably.

The wheelchair was a game-changer for Griff, significantly improving his quality of life. Despite being 105 “human” years old, Griff remained energetic and spirited, relying on his wheels to stay mobile. However, on a heartbreaking Monday night, the wheelchair was taken from the porch, leaving Megan and Griff devastated.

Megan filed a police report and reached out to the community for help through the Nextdoor app. The response was overwhelming, with over 80 people offering donations, resources, and support. One person even reported seeing a man on a bike with what appeared to be Griff’s wheels attached as a trailer.

Unfortunately, replacing the stolen wheels was not an easy task, as they were not readily available at local pet stores. News of Griff’s plight caught the attention of Kathryn Groenewold from Paw Prosper, the parent company of Walkin’ Pets. Touched by Griff’s story, Kathryn and her team arranged for a replacement wheelchair to be hand-delivered to Megan’s doorstep.

Walkin’ Pets specializes in providing wheelchairs and support products to improve pet mobility, ensuring that each chair is perfectly fitted for the dog. Megan was overjoyed by the generosity and kindness shown by the community. She expressed her gratitude, stating, “My faith in humanity has been restored. Thank you, everyone, so much.”

Griff may not understand why he was temporarily without his wheels, but he is grateful for the outpouring of support from the community. Despite the setback, Griff is back on his feet, rolling around with joy and excitement. The incident may have tried to slow him down, but with the community’s help, Griff is back to enjoying his daily walks and experiencing life to the fullest.
