Oregon defeats Penn State to win Big Ten title

Dillon Gabriel’s decision to transfer to Oregon proved to be the right one as the Ducks clinched the Big Ten title with a hard-fought victory over Penn State on Saturday night. Despite a valiant effort from the Nittany Lions, the top-ranked Ducks stayed undefeated with a 45-37 win.
Oregon started strong, scoring touchdowns on four of their first five drives to build an 18-point lead in the first half. Penn State fought back to cut the deficit to four, but Oregon regained control with a 38-24 lead in the third quarter.
The game remained intense as Penn State continued to battle, with Kaytron Allen’s impressive runs and a touchdown bringing them within eight points. However, Oregon responded with a crucial touchdown from Jordan James to extend their lead to 45-30.
Penn State refused to go down without a fight, scoring a late touchdown and forcing a turnover to get one last chance. But a key interception sealed the victory for Oregon, securing their first conference title since 2020.
Tez Johnson had a standout performance for Penn State, setting a Big Ten championship record with 181 receiving yards and a touchdown. Dillon Gabriel also shined for Oregon, throwing for 283 yards and four touchdowns.
With the win, Oregon is likely to secure the top seed in the playoff, while Penn State remains in contention to host a game in the first round. Both teams will await their fate on Sunday afternoon.
The victory marks Oregon’s first conference title since 2020 and sets them up for their first playoff appearance since 2014. The Ducks are now poised to make a run for the national championship as they continue their impressive season.
