Digby County man, 34, charged with drunk driving in crash that killed 2

Vincent Alphonse Comeau, a resident of Saint Alphonse, N.S., is currently facing a slew of charges, including impaired driving causing death, following a tragic accident that claimed the lives of two individuals and left another injured in the Municipality of Clare. The incident, which occurred on October 6 in Mavillette, N.S., has sent shockwaves through the community.

According to a press release issued by the RCMP, the 34-year-old Comeau was apprehended on Monday in connection with the fatal crash. Tragically, a 77-year-old woman from Saint Alphonse, who was a passenger in the SUV, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger sustained life-threatening injuries and succumbed to their wounds later on. The driver of the SUV also suffered serious injuries in the collision.

Authorities revealed that Comeau exhibited signs of alcohol impairment at the crash site. Subsequently, he was transported to the hospital for further evaluation, including the collection of blood samples for analysis. Sgt. Jeff LeBlanc disclosed that the delay in pressing charges was due to the time required for the blood analysis results from the RCMP’s forensic laboratory.

In addition to impaired driving causing death, Comeau is also charged with dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and impaired driving causing bodily harm. He has since been released from custody on specific conditions and is slated to appear in Yarmouth provincial court on February 18.
