US Election 2024

Trump-backed candidate aiming to replace Matt Gaetz wants Florida to adopt gold and silver as legal tender

Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis, who was encouraged by President-elect Donald Trump to run in the special election to fill the seat vacated by former Rep. Matt Gaetz in Florida’s 1st Congressional District, is determined to win in order to support the incoming president’s agenda.

Patronis expressed his enthusiasm for running during an interview with Fox News Digital, emphasizing his desire to back President Trump’s mission of eliminating “wokeness” that has permeated government and society. He stressed the need for common sense, which he believes is lacking in the current state of affairs in the U.S.

If successful in securing the House seat, Patronis is open to joining the House Freedom Caucus, stating that he would be interested in learning more about the group and finding common ground with their principles. He firmly believes that citizens, particularly those in District 1, are more adept at managing their money than the government in Washington D.C.

One of Patronis’ key initiatives is to push for the adoption of gold and silver as legal tender in Florida. He has called for a study on the matter, citing the historical trustworthiness of these assets and their potential to enhance economic freedom in the state.

In addition to Trump’s endorsement, Patronis has garnered support from prominent House Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer.

The special election is scheduled for April 1, with the special Republican primary set to take place next month. Patronis is confident in his ability to represent the interests of Florida’s 1st Congressional District and advance policies that align with President Trump’s agenda.
