Trump tangles with reporter on Iran preemptive strike: ‘Is that a serious question?’

President-elect Trump found himself in a tense exchange with a reporter on Monday when asked about the possibility of preemptive strikes on Iran. Following a speech at Mar-a-Lago, Trump fielded questions from the media, including one about targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities.

In response to the question, Trump hesitated, stating, “Well I can’t tell you that. I mean, it’s a wonderful question, but how can I – am I going to do preemptive strikes? Why would I say that?” He continued, “Can you imagine if I said yes or no? You would say, ‘That was strange that he answered that way.’ Am I going to do preemptive strikes on Iran? Is that a serious question? How could I answer a question like that?”

The reporter then pressed Trump on whether he would support Israel striking Iran. Trump’s response remained guarded, as he stated, “How could I tell you a thing like that now? You don’t talk about that before something may or may not happen. I don’t want to insult you, I just think it’s just not something that I would ever answer. Having to do with there or any other place in the world.”

When asked about efforts to secure the release of hostages in the Middle East, Trump emphasized his administration’s commitment to diplomatic solutions. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to address the conflict in Ukraine, expressing hope for progress in ending the war with Russia.

Overall, Trump’s responses underscored the complexities of international relations and the need for strategic decision-making in sensitive geopolitical situations. As the president-elect navigates these challenges, his statements reflect a cautious approach to addressing potential military actions and prioritizing diplomatic solutions.
