Key Trump ally comes out against massive emergency spending plan: ‘This bill should not pass’

Elon Musk, the billionaire and close ally of former President Donald Trump, recently made headlines for opposing a proposed bill by House Speaker Mike Johnson to keep the government funded. Musk took to social media to criticize the 1,547-page bill, calling it full of “pork” and stating that it should not pass.

The legislation in question aims to prevent a government shutdown and fund the government through March. Republican congressional leaders have defended the bill, arguing that it would give President-elect Trump more influence over spending decisions in the future.

Another Trump ally, Vivek Ramaswamy, also expressed skepticism about the bill but did not outright oppose it. He mentioned on social media that he was reading through the lengthy document and expected all lawmakers to do the same.

While Trump himself has not publicly commented on the budget battle, some GOP lawmakers have voiced concerns about the size of the funding package. Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Mo., raised questions about certain provisions in the bill, including those related to pharmacy benefit managers.

Johnson has given lawmakers three days to review the bill before a scheduled vote on Friday. He defended the bill’s extensive nature, attributing it to necessary funding for natural disasters and infrastructure projects.

The proposed bill includes $100 billion for disaster relief for hurricanes and $8 billion for the reconstruction of a bridge in Baltimore. The GOP, holding a slim majority in the House, may need Democratic support to pass the bill. The Senate must also approve the legislation by the Friday deadline to prevent a government shutdown.
