‘The Apprentice’ creator Mark Burnett tapped to serve as U.S. special envoy, Trump says

President-elect Donald Trump made a significant announcement on Saturday, revealing that he has selected Mark Burnett, the creator of “The Apprentice,” to take on a diplomatic role in the United Kingdom. In a post on Truth Social, Trump declared that Burnett, a British-American TV producer born in London, will serve as the next U.S. special envoy to the United Kingdom.

Describing the appointment as a great honor, Trump emphasized Burnett’s extensive experience in television production and business, highlighting his unique blend of diplomatic skills and international recognition. Apart from crafting “The Apprentice,” Burnett is also known for creating hit shows like “Shark Tank,” “Survivor,” and “The Martha Stewart Show.” Trump commended Burnett for his remarkable achievements, noting that he has produced some of the biggest shows in television history.

The president-elect lauded Burnett’s credentials, mentioning that he is the former Chairman of MGM and has received 13 Emmy Awards. Trump expressed confidence that Burnett’s appointment will strengthen diplomatic relations between the U.S. and the UK, focusing on areas of mutual interest such as trade, investment opportunities, and cultural exchanges.

Currently, there is no incumbent serving as the U.S. Special Envoy to the United Kingdom. Special envoy roles are typically temporary and geared towards accomplishing specific objectives, although Trump did not specify the exact purpose of Burnett’s appointment in his announcement.

Earlier in December, Trump also named Warren A. Stephens as the U.S. ambassador to the Court of St. James, also known as the U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom. Stephens, who has served as the president, chairman, and CEO of Stephens Inc. for 38 years, was praised by Trump for his contributions to the financial services industry and philanthropic endeavors.
