Body found in Lady Bird Lake in Austin Texas
Another body has been discovered in the popular Lady Bird Lake in Austin, Texas, adding to the mystery surrounding multiple deaths in the area in 2024. The latest incident occurred near 1st Street Bridge and the 300 block of Cesar Chavez, prompting the Austin Police Department (APD) to launch an investigation.
While the APD has stated that they do not suspect foul play in this latest case, as the body showed no signs of trauma, they are continuing to look into the matter. Despite their reassurances, the community remains unsettled as questions and speculation abound. Most of the previous deaths in the lake have been attributed to accidental drownings, possibly linked to the lake’s proximity to nightlife establishments.
The most recent victim, identified as 73-year-old Thi Lang Nguyen, was found on December 1. Police have clarified that there is no apparent connection between this incident and the other deaths earlier in the year. In one case from September, a man exhibiting erratic behavior near East Cesar Chavez and Nueces Streets entered the water and tragically did not resurface.
In February, a woman’s body was discovered just 20 feet from the north shore of the lake, while in April, a fisherman spotted another individual floating in the water. July saw a man with blunt force trauma found on a trail near Rainey Street, and in September, a body was located along a trail near Pleasant Valley Road.
The string of deaths has raised concerns and prompted increased police presence in the area. Mounted police have been patrolling Rainey Street, where several bodies have been found, to ensure public safety.
