In the midst of negotiations for a possible hostages-for-cease-fire deal between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, and with the truce with Hezbollah in Lebanon holding steady, Israel now has an opportunity to focus its military efforts on neutralizing the Houthi leadership in Yemen. Former Israeli officials are emphasizing the need for Israel to intensify its attacks on the Houthi leadership, including targeted killings if necessary.

Retired Maj. Gen. Amos Yadlin, former head of Israeli Military Intelligence, stressed the importance of accelerating and expanding attacks in Yemen, not only on national infrastructure but also on the political leadership of the Houthis. He suggested that targeted killings could be an option with the right intelligence in place. The key leaders of the Houthis, including Abdul Malik Badruddin Al-Houthi, need to be dealt with swiftly, according to Yadlin.

Joe Truzman, a research analyst at FDD’s Long War Journal, highlighted the importance of intelligence-based assassination operations, emphasizing that Israel has the capability to target key individuals in Yemen if the need arises. Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. (res.) Yaakov Amidror, a former national security adviser in Israel, explained the complexity of such operations, stressing the necessity of real-time intelligence and strategic planning.

Recent Israeli airstrikes in Yemen targeted key Houthi infrastructure and leadership positions after a series of attacks by the Houthis on Israeli territory. The strikes were conducted with precision, showcasing the Israeli Air Force’s capabilities in long-range operations. The Israeli Defense Minister issued a warning to the Houthis, indicating that Israel will not hesitate to strike strategic targets and eliminate key leaders if necessary.

Former Mossad head Efraim Halevy emphasized the need for a coordinated effort to combat the Houthi threat, stating that terrorist activities must be met with a strong response. With the situation in Yemen remaining volatile, Israel is prepared to take decisive action to protect its interests and ensure regional stability.

As Israel navigates complex diplomatic negotiations and security challenges in the region, the focus on addressing the Houthi threat in Yemen has become a top priority. With the support of allies and a strategic approach to targeting key Houthi leaders, Israel is poised to confront this threat head-on and safeguard its national security interests.
