Ring in the New Year with Varied Weather Across Canada

As New Year’s Eve approaches, Canadians from coast to coast are preparing to celebrate the arrival of 2025 amidst a wide range of weather conditions.

In Eastern Canada, cities like Halifax, Montreal, and Ottawa can expect chilly temperatures hovering around freezing, setting the stage for a brisk evening of festivities.

Moving towards central Canada, Toronto anticipates the development of snow in the afternoon continuing into the night, with temperatures just above 0 C adding a wintry touch to the celebrations.

Heading further west, Sudbury and Kitchener are set to experience slightly below freezing temperatures, with Kitchener also bracing for up to four centimetres of snowfall.

The prairies will see Winnipeg under cloudy skies with a low of -12 C and a slight chance of precipitation, while Saskatoon, Regina, and Edmonton are in for a frigid night with temperatures nearing -20 C and minimal precipitation. Calgary will be a bit milder at -13 C but could see some snow showers.

Vancouver’s New Year’s Eve forecast calls for a low of 3 C under mostly cloudy skies, with a 25 per cent chance of rain adding a touch of moisture to the evening.

In the northern regions, Iqaluit will experience a drastic temperature shift from early evening to late night, with a wind chill dropping from -26 C to -8 C as the night progresses, setting the stage for a relatively warmer New Year’s Day with a forecasted high of 1 C.

Meanwhile, Yellowknife and Whitehorse will face a significant risk of frostbite, with wind chills reaching as low as -30 C and -29 C respectively as the night wears on.
