Trump slams Merchan, Democrats, who ‘just want to see if they can get a pound of flesh’ amid failed cases

President-elect Donald Trump is facing backlash from Judge Juan Merchan for denying his request to dismiss charges against him in New York v. Trump. Merchan set Trump’s sentencing for January 10, just days before the inauguration. Despite the verdict, Merchan stated that there would be no punishment imposed, but rather a sentence of unconditional discharge.

Trump expressed his frustration in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, claiming that the judge is corrupt and is working on behalf of the Democrat Party. He believes that the case is a political witch hunt orchestrated by President Biden and the Department of Justice. Trump also criticized Merchan for imposing a gag order, preventing him from speaking out about the case.

The president-elect accused Merchan of being the most conflicted judge in history, suggesting that the judge created a case out of nothing to benefit his political opponents. Trump also highlighted the conflicts of interest surrounding Merchan’s daughter, Loren Merchan, who is affiliated with a Democrat firm that has done work for top Democratic clients.

Despite the challenges, Trump pointed out that cases brought against him in other jurisdictions have been dismissed or put on hold indefinitely. Special Counsel Jack Smith’s cases against Trump related to alleged election interference were dismissed, and a Georgia court disqualified Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and her team from prosecuting Trump.

Trump’s spokesman and incoming White House Communications Director, Steven Cheung, criticized the court’s decision, calling it a violation of the Supreme Court’s immunity decision. Cheung emphasized that the case should be dismissed immediately, allowing Trump to focus on his presidential transition and duties unobstructed.
