New Senator Bernie Moreno wants a border bill on Trump’s desk on Day 1, putting Dems on record

Newly sworn-in Senator Bernie Moreno, a Republican from Ohio, is wasting no time in pushing for legislation to address the crisis at the southern border. In an interview with Fox News Digital, Moreno emphasized the importance of fulfilling campaign promises and addressing key issues such as open borders and high prices.

“We have to make certain that we actually do the things that we campaigned on,” Moreno said. “We’re going to make it so that there’s no illegal immigration, that we seal our border, we secure our border, and we deport anybody who’s in this country illegally.”

Moreno outlined his vision for the legislation, which would include funding for deportations, securing the border, completing the border wall, and implementing technology to support deportation efforts at scale. He expressed confidence in the ability to pass such a bill quickly, stating, “We can get it done soon, I’m confident. We can even get a bill in front of President Trump right when he gets sworn in.”

While the Republicans hold a slim majority in the Senate, Moreno believes that border security should not be a partisan issue. He called on Democrats to support measures to secure the border, emphasizing that it is an American issue, not a Republican one.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune could play a key role in bringing border-related measures to the floor for votes, forcing Democratic senators to take a public stance on the issue. This tactic, used by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in the past, could highlight where Democrats stand on key GOP-led border bills.

In addition to standalone legislation, a portion of illegal immigration measures is expected to be included in a reconciliation bill addressing tax cuts, energy, and defense. President Trump has urged swift action on these priorities, emphasizing the need for unity and quick delivery of historic victories for the American people.

As Congress works on these critical issues, it is clear that Moreno is committed to fulfilling his campaign promises and working towards a safer and more secure border. With the support of his colleagues in the Senate, he is determined to make progress on this pressing issue and deliver real results for the American people.
