Six-Year-Old Girl Dies in Tragic Duplex Fire in Lower Sackville

Tragedy struck early Saturday morning in Lower Sackville, N.S., when a duplex fire claimed the life of a six-year-old girl and left two other children “fighting for their lives,” according to a family friend.

Alyssa Porter, a family friend who started an online fundraiser for the affected family, described the situation as a “long road to recovery” for the family. “When a house burns down and family members are lost, there’s no real way to be at this point for anyone,” she said.

Emergency crews responded to the fire at a home on Riverside Drive at around 3:12 a.m. on Saturday. Three children, aged 5, 6, and 9, along with a 40-year-old man were rushed to the hospital following the incident.

The six-year-old girl, who was a relative, tragically succumbed to her injuries, while the other two children continue to receive medical care. The 40-year-old man is currently in stable condition.

Porter announced that a vigil will be held outside the family’s home on Sunday evening, where people are encouraged to bring teddy bears, flowers, and any items to show support. “The amount of support that has been pouring in in the last 24 hours… I’m just totally amazed,” she expressed.

Halifax Regional Fire officials have stated that there is no suspicion of foul play in the fire. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
