‘Bumbling idiot’: Freshman GOP senator unleashes on blue city mayor, Dems opposing Trump’s deportations

Ohio GOP Sen. Bernie Moreno didn’t hold back in his criticism of Chicago’s Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson, calling him the “worst mayor in American history.” Moreno urged liberal mayors across the country to prioritize the well-being of their citizens over opposing President Donald Trump’s education efforts.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Moreno emphasized the importance of mayors advocating for American citizens by focusing on improving schools, housing, and security rather than protecting criminal immigrants who should not be in the country. He expressed confidence that voters would hold mayors accountable for their actions.

Regarding Mayor Johnson, Moreno did not mince words, labeling him as a “total and complete bumbling idiot” who prioritizes political posturing over the needs of his constituents. Johnson has been vocal in resisting Trump’s immigration policies, vowing to shield undocumented individuals from ICE raids.

While the Chicago mayor’s office dismissed Moreno’s comments as “ad hominem criticism,” some residents, like P Rae Easley, have voiced frustration with Johnson’s stance on immigration. Easley highlighted the financial burden placed on Chicago taxpayers by illegal immigrants and criticized Johnson for prioritizing the protection of undocumented individuals.

Despite efforts by Johnson and other mayors to thwart Trump’s immigration agenda, ICE agents have continued to deport illegal immigrants across the country. Moreno commended Trump’s actions and expressed optimism that the administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration would persist.

Moreno also lauded bipartisan support for addressing illegal immigration, citing the passage of the Laken Riley Act with the backing of 48 Democrats in the House. He believes that Democrats are increasingly open to tackling the issue and emphasized the need for a fair and secure process for legal immigration.

In line with his views, Moreno introduced the Refugees Using Legal Entry Safely (RULES) Act, which aims to reform the asylum system to prevent abuse and ensure that genuine refugees are welcomed while economic migrants follow legal procedures.

As the debate over immigration policy continues, Moreno’s strong stance underscores the importance of prioritizing the well-being and security of American citizens while upholding the rule of law. The clash between federal and local authorities on immigration issues exemplifies the complex challenges facing policymakers in addressing the country’s immigration system.
