US special envoy says another American hostage set to return home

As one American hostage made his return to the U.S. on Tuesday night, another is expected to be released on Wednesday. Special Envoy for Hostages Adam Boehler, along with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, revealed during an interview on CNN that, “We have another American coming in [Wednesday].” The identity and location of the hostage were not disclosed by the guests.
In a phone interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity on “Hannity,” Boehler mentioned, “It’ll be unilateral as well, and I can’t release any details until the person is safely released. It could jeopardize the hostage’s safety. However, we expect another release tomorrow, and hopefully more to follow, as the president has prioritized bringing all Americans home.”
The news comes as Marc Fogel, an American teacher detained by Russia, made his return to the U.S. and met with President Donald Trump at the White House late Tuesday night. Fogel, a Pennsylvania history teacher working at the Anglo-American School in Moscow, had been detained in Russia since 2021. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz stated that President Trump and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff successfully negotiated Fogel’s release as a demonstration of goodwill from the Russian government.
Fogel, 63, had been serving a 14-year prison sentence in Russia after being arrested at an airport for possession of medically prescribed marijuana. His family and supporters maintained that the drugs were for legitimate medical use. Fogel’s wife Jane and sons Ethan and Sam expressed their overwhelming gratitude for his release.
Waltz emphasized that President Trump has been actively securing the release of Americans detained worldwide and will continue until all are safely returned to the U.S. Fogel’s release marks another successful effort in this regard. Fogel, a dedicated educator for over three decades, had been teaching at various international schools before his arrest.
It is worth noting that Fogel was not part of a previous prisoner swap that took place in August 2024, where several Americans were freed. Despite his detention, Fogel never complained about his circumstances, according to his mother. He graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1984 and had a long career teaching history at schools attended by children of U.S. diplomats around the world.
As Fogel’s story unfolds, President Trump’s commitment to bringing all detained Americans home remains steadfast. The successful negotiations for Fogel’s release are a testament to the administration’s dedication to ensuring the safe return of all American hostages.
