Trump congratulates US military after airstrike that killed official of Al-Qaeda affiliate: ‘Dealt Justice’

President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to congratulate U.S. forces for successfully conducting an airstrike over the weekend targeting a senior official of Hurras al-Din, an Al-Qaeda affiliate, in Syria. The precision airstrike resulted in the elimination of a key member of the terrorist organization who was collaborating with Al-Qaeda in the region.

In his message, President Trump commended CENTCOM Commander Gen. Michael Kurilla and the U.S. warfighters who played a crucial role in neutralizing the terrorist threat posed by the Al-Qaeda affiliate. The President emphasized the importance of dealing with jihadists who pose a danger to America and its allies and partners.

The airstrike, carried out by U.S. forces in Northwest Syria, specifically targeted and eliminated a senior finance and logistics official of Hurras al-Din. This operation was part of the ongoing efforts by U.S. Central Command and its regional partners to disrupt and degrade the activities of terrorists planning attacks against civilians and military personnel in the region.

Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla reaffirmed the commitment to relentlessly pursue terrorists to defend the homeland and ensure the safety of U.S., allied, and partner personnel in the region. Hurras al-Din, an Al-Qaeda offshoot formed in 2018 after the Nusrah Front split from Al-Qaeda, operates mainly in Syria’s Idlib Province and is estimated to have around 2,500 members, according to the National Counterterrorism Center.

The National Counterterrorism Center also highlighted that Hurras al-Din advocates for attacks against the West and Israel with the goal of establishing a new caliphate in the Levant and the broader Middle East. Despite facing personnel losses and the removal of key leaders since 2019, the group still poses a threat to U.S. and other Western interests outside of Syria due to its connections with longstanding Al-Qaeda members.
