Trump will have GOP House for entire second term: Republican election chair

House Republicans are gearing up for the 2026 midterm elections with confidence, despite facing potential challenges in their bid to keep control of the chamber for President Donald Trump’s entire second term. National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) Chair Richard Hudson, a Republican from North Carolina, expressed optimism that his party would maintain their majority in the House.

In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Hudson dismissed concerns about potential “headwinds” facing the GOP and emphasized the party’s success in earning the votes of the American people in the prior election cycle. He pledged that Republicans would raise the necessary funds to retain and grow their majority in the House.

The NRCC’s Democratic counterpart, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), recently announced a record-breaking fundraising total of over $9 million in January. In contrast, the NRCC raised just under $6 million in the same period. Despite being outraised by the Democrats, Hudson remains confident in the Republican Party’s ability to secure victory in the upcoming elections.

Historically, the party in power often faces fundraising challenges in the months following an election. However, Hudson believes that the Republican Party’s strong performance in the 2024 elections, where they retained control of the House and flipped the White House and Senate, bodes well for their prospects in 2026.

Hudson pointed out that Trump’s second term and the unique circumstances of the 2024 presidential race make the upcoming midterm elections different from traditional patterns. He highlighted the favorable battleground for Republicans, with Democrats defending more vulnerable seats in districts that Trump won.

An internal GOP memo revealed that the NRCC has nearly doubled its grassroots fundraising from January 2023 to January 2025, indicating growing support for the party. Despite facing stiff competition from the Democrats, Hudson and his team are confident in their strategy and believe they have a strong chance of securing victory in 2026.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, House Republicans are gearing up for a tough but promising battle to maintain their majority in the House and support President Trump’s agenda for the remainder of his term. With fundraising efforts on the rise and a strategic plan in place, the Republican Party is poised to make a strong showing in the upcoming elections.
