Democrat slams Boebert’s ‘racist’ comment about Green shaking ‘pimp cane’ at Trump

Rep. Chrissy Houlahan, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, has taken a stand against Rep. Lauren Boebert, a Republican from Colorado, over her recent comments about Rep. Al Green, a Democrat from Texas. Boebert criticized Green for disrupting President Donald Trump’s address to Congress by waving his cane and shouting during the speech. Houlahan submitted a resolution on Monday calling for Boebert to be censured for her “disparaging and derogatory comments” about Green.

In an interview with Real America’s Voice News, Boebert referred to Green’s actions as “absolutely abhorrent” and accused him of behaving inappropriately by shaking his “pimp cane” at President Trump. Houlahan’s resolution states that Boebert’s words were racist, disparaging, and breached the proper conduct and decorum of the House of Representatives. The resolution calls for Boebert to be censured publicly by the Speaker of the House.

Green’s disruptive behavior during Trump’s speech led to his censure by the House of Representatives, with Speaker Mike Johnson condemning Green for violating House rules. Houlahan initially voted to table the motion to censure Green but ultimately joined with Republicans in supporting the censure. This decision sparked controversy within the Democratic party, with some members criticizing Houlahan for her vote.

Despite facing backlash for her decision, Houlahan defended her vote, emphasizing the importance of upholding the rules and standards of decorum in the House of Representatives. She also pointed out the need for consistency in applying these rules, referencing past instances where Republican members engaged in disruptive behavior without facing similar consequences.

Houlahan’s stance on the censure issue highlights the challenges of maintaining order and civility in a politically divided environment. As lawmakers navigate the complexities of governance, the issue of decorum and respect for House rules remains a central concern. The censure resolution against Boebert serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to uphold the integrity and dignity of the legislative process.
