Coyotes reportedly terrorizing Washington neighborhood

A 4-year-old girl in Washington was recently attacked by a coyote just inches from the front door of her home. The incident occurred in the Factoria neighborhood of Bellevue, where there has been a string of coyote encounters and attacks reported.

Chang Tong, the girl’s father, recounted the terrifying moment when his daughter was bitten and dragged by the coyote. The girl had stepped outside to pet the family dog when the coyote suddenly attacked, biting her hand and pulling her to the ground. Fortunately, the girl only suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

In response to the increasing number of coyote incidents in the area, state wildlife officials have taken action to remove two coyotes from the neighborhood. One coyote was lethally removed at the scene of the attack, while another was successfully located and removed a few days later.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has issued a warning to residents to be cautious and take preventative measures to avoid conflicts with coyotes. They advise keeping pets indoors, leashing dogs, and avoiding walking in areas where coyotes are known to be present, especially during early morning and late evening hours.

The recent incidents involving coyote attacks in Bellevue have raised concerns among residents, prompting authorities to increase patrols in the area. It is important for the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious coyote behavior to wildlife officials.

Prevention is key in minimizing conflicts with wildlife, and residents are urged to take precautions to ensure their safety and the safety of their pets. By following these guidelines and staying informed about coyote activity in the area, residents can help prevent future attacks and protect themselves from potential harm.
