Ukraine unveils cruise missile that could travel far enough to hit Moscow

Ukraine has recently unveiled a powerful cruise missile that has the capability to travel over 600 miles, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proudly announcing this development over the weekend. The Long Neptune missile has been successfully tested and used in combat, marking a significant achievement for Ukraine. With a range of a thousand kilometers, or 620 miles, the missile can now reach as far as Moscow, putting the Russian capital within striking distance.

The development of the Neptune cruise missile has been in progress for several years, and its combat success was demonstrated in a recent strike on an oil refinery in Tuapse, Russia, which is approximately 300 miles away from the front line. This refinery is located less than 60 miles from Russian President Vladimir Putin’s luxurious palace on the Black Sea in Gelendzhik. The Neptune missile was also employed in April 2022 to target a flagship of Russia’s Black Sea fleet.

President Zelenskyy has also made a commitment to produce 100,000 long-range munitions in 2025, further bolstering Ukraine’s defensive capabilities. However, amidst these advancements, Russia intercepted and destroyed several Ukrainian drones flying over Moscow, with some drones coming as close as two miles away from the Kremlin. The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia has escalated despite ceasefire negotiations, including an upcoming phone call between President Donald Trump and Putin.

Zelenskyy has agreed to a 30-day ceasefire following discussions with U.S. officials in Saudi Arabia, but Russia has not yet accepted these terms and has instead intensified its attacks on Ukraine. The situation remains tense as both sides navigate the delicate balance of negotiations and military actions. Trump has indicated that discussions during the upcoming call will cover various topics, including land and power plants, as both Ukraine and Russia work towards finding a resolution to the conflict.
