Canada soccer head coach Jesse Marsch adds Zorhan Bassong for injured Richie Laryea

Sporting Kansas City’s Zorhan Bassong has been called up to replace the injured fullback/wingback Richie Laryea on Canada’s roster ahead of the CONCACAF Nations League Finals. The 31st-ranked Canadians are set to face off against the 19th-ranked Mexico on Thursday in the semifinals at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., with the winner advancing to the final against either the 16th-ranked U.S. or the 36th-ranked Panama on Sunday.
Laryea had been dealing with a hamstring injury since March 1 when he sustained it during Toronto FC’s 4-2 loss to Orlando City. Despite efforts to recover in time for the tournament, Laryea was ultimately deemed unfit to travel with the team, and will continue his recovery process with Toronto FC.
In his place, Bassong, a 25-year-old leftback from Montreal, has been called up to join the squad. Bassong has previously earned two caps for Canada and will look to make an impact in the upcoming matches.
Canada’s roster for the tournament includes a mix of players from various clubs around the world. Some notable names on the roster include Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich, Jonathan David from LOSC Lille, and Cyle Larin from RCD Mallorca.
The team will be looking to put on a strong performance in the CONCACAF Nations League Finals and showcase their talent on the international stage. With Bassong stepping in to fill the void left by Laryea’s absence, Canada will be looking to make a statement against tough competition in Mexico and potentially in the final match. Stay tuned for exciting soccer action as Canada competes for glory in the CONCACAF Nations League Finals.
