Trump urges migrants to ‘self-deport’ with DHS CBP Home app

President Donald Trump has announced a new initiative to urge illegal immigrants to “self-deport” from the United States using a newly released app from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), according to a report from Axios. In a video set to be released on social media platforms this week, Trump will encourage illegal immigrants to utilize the CBP Home app to declare their departure from the country. The DHS introduced the app earlier this month after discontinuing the Biden-era CBP One app, which was previously used to allow migrants into the U.S.

In the video message, Trump states, “People in our country can self-deport the easy way, or they can get deported the hard way, and that’s not pleasant.” He goes on to criticize the Biden administration for exploiting the CBP One app to facilitate the illegal entry of over 1 million aliens into the United States. Trump emphasizes that his administration is launching the CBP Home app to provide a simple way for individuals in the country illegally to voluntarily self-deport.

“If they do, they will have the opportunity to potentially return legally at some point in the future, but if they do not avail themselves of this opportunity, then they will be found. They will be deported, and they will never be admitted to the United States ever, ever again,” Trump adds.

Using the CBP Home app is described by Trump as the safest option for both illegal immigrants and law enforcement. It allows law enforcement to concentrate resources on apprehending and deporting illegal immigrants who have been convicted of violent crimes. The app enables illegal immigrants to submit their intent to depart and provide details regarding their plan to leave the U.S. Those who were paroled into the U.S. using the Biden-era app can also use the CBP Home app to verify their departure from the country.

The Trump administration has been swift in expanding deportations and reducing the number of migrants entering the U.S., particularly through humanitarian parole, which saw a significant increase under the Biden administration. Trump terminated the use of the CBP One app on his first day in office and has paused applications for parole programs while allowing ICE to revoke parole statuses for migrants.

Recently, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem ended the use of the CBP One app for migrants boarding domestic flights, except in cases where it is being used for self-deportation purposes. The administration has also terminated extensions of Temporary Protected Status for certain nationalities.

It is evident that President Donald Trump is taking a firm stance on illegal immigration, aiming to streamline the process of self-deportation for those in the country illegally. The CBP Home app serves as a key tool in this effort, providing a means for individuals to voluntarily depart from the U.S. and potentially return legally in the future. Trump’s administration continues to prioritize border security and enforcement measures to address the ongoing challenges posed by illegal immigration.
