Zelenskyy wants details after Trump-Putin call, lays out Ukraine’s ‘red line’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed the need for more detailed information regarding peace proposals following a phone call between President Donald Trump and Russia’s Vladimir Putin. Zelenskyy emphasized that the recognition of Ukrainian temporarily occupied territories as Russian would be a red line that Ukraine would not cross.

In response to the call between Trump and Putin, Zelenskyy announced plans to speak with Trump to discuss the next steps. He highlighted the ongoing attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, despite the ceasefire agreement between the U.S. and Russia. The recent drone strikes by Russia have caused damage to civilian areas and a hospital in Ukraine.

Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of understanding the details of any peace proposals to ensure a sustainable and just peace. He stressed the need for Ukraine to be involved in negotiations, as the conflict involves both Russia and Ukraine. Zelenskyy expressed support for steps towards ending the war but emphasized the importance of clarity on the specifics of any proposed agreements.

Trump described his call with Putin as productive, discussing elements of a Contract for Peace and the desire to end the conflict that has resulted in the loss of thousands of lives. The White House confirmed that the movement towards peace would begin with a ceasefire on energy and infrastructure, followed by negotiations on a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea.

During the call, Putin reportedly stated that a complete cessation of military aid to Ukraine was a key condition for ending the war. However, Trump clarified that aid was not discussed during their conversation. The leaders agreed to begin negotiations immediately in the Middle East to work towards a full ceasefire and permanent peace.
