Judge grants psychiatrist more time to assess woman charged in Halifax stabbing

A forensic psychiatrist has been granted an extension to complete an assessment of Elliott Chorny, a 19-year-old woman accused of stabbing a child in downtown Halifax on February 23. Chorny is facing charges of attempted murder and a weapons offence in connection to the attack on the child.

Chorny has been in custody since her arrest following the incident. Additionally, she is also facing an assault charge from a previous altercation. During a court appearance in March, Judge Alonzo Wright ordered a 30-day psychiatric assessment to determine Chorny’s criminal responsibility for the charges.

In a recent development, psychiatrist Dr. Risk Kronfli requested an extension for the assessment after identifying unresolved issues that require further exploration. Judge Wright approved the request, granting more time for the evaluation to be completed. Chorny is scheduled to appear in court again on May 9 for further proceedings related to the case.
