Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas celebrated the passage of a new congressional map on August 23 that is set to favor Republicans. He has pledged to swiftly sign this new map into law.
The Texas Senate, with a Republican majority, approved the new congressional map in a party-line vote during the early hours of August 23. The re-drawn map had previously been approved by the Republican-majority Texas House on August 20.
