Trump admin shares border plans for 2025 and beyond: ‘As much wall as we need’

The Trump administration is moving forward with plans to construct 85 miles of new border wall this year alone, with aspirations for hundreds of miles more in the years to come. Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks recently declared their intention to build as much wall as necessary to gain control of the border. Work crews have been spotted in various locations, including plugging gaps in the existing wall line east of Yuma, Arizona, and in the rugged area of San Diego known as “Smuggler’s Gulch.”

According to Jeffrey Stalnaker, San Diego Border Patrol Sector Chief, the goal is to achieve operational control of the border by detecting and monitoring all illegal crossings. The plan includes expanding the use of large blocking buoys in the middle of the Rio Grande and reinforcing them with walls on the shoreline, creating a multi-layered security zone.

Under the Trump administration, the average daily illegal crossings in the San Diego sector dropped significantly, from 451 in October to 39 in March. Banks emphasized the importance of enforcing laws and providing consequences for illegal border crossings to complement the physical barriers being constructed. Despite progress in border control, the ultimate goal is to achieve operational control and maintain situational awareness along the border.

Future projects include adding nearly 1,000 miles of additional barriers, contingent upon funding from Congress. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) introduced a bill in January proposing $25 billion for border wall construction. In the meantime, work crews are diligently plugging gaps in the existing wall line to strengthen border security.

The efforts to fortify the border reflect a commitment to enhancing national security and protecting the sovereignty of the United States. As the construction of new border wall sections progresses, Border Patrol officials remain resolute in their mission to secure the border and prevent illegal crossings.
