AOC dares border czar Homan to ‘come for me’ after DOJ referral threat

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., stood her ground against Tom Homan after he threatened to refer her to the Justice Department for providing advice to migrants on how to avoid deportation. At a town hall event in Queens, Ocasio-Cortez confidently addressed the crowd, dismissing Homan’s threats and asserting her right to free speech. She defiantly challenged Homan, stating, “Come for me, do I look like I care?”
The controversy arose after Ocasio-Cortez’s office hosted a “Know Your Rights” webinar in February, where migrants in her district were advised on their constitutional protections when facing deportation. Homan criticized her actions, suggesting they may impede ICE from carrying out deportations under the Trump administration. However, Ocasio-Cortez defended her actions, stating that there was nothing illegal about providing information on constitutional rights.
Homan, the Trump administration’s border czar, insinuated that Ocasio-Cortez’s actions could be considered criminal. He emphasized the importance of enforcing immigration laws and accused her of teaching migrants how to evade law enforcement. Despite Homan’s warnings, Ocasio-Cortez remained steadfast in her advocacy for immigrant rights.
During the town hall event, Ocasio-Cortez also criticized the Trump administration’s approach to border security and immigration. She referred to the deportation of Venezuelan gang members as “sanctioned kidnappings” and urged individuals to demand a judicial warrant if approached by ICE agents. The congresswoman emphasized the importance of knowing and asserting one’s rights when faced with deportation threats.
The town hall was well-attended, with hundreds of supporters showing their solidarity with Ocasio-Cortez. While addressing various local issues and her legislative agenda, Ocasio-Cortez received loud applause for her opposition to a proposed casino at Citi Field. Despite a disruptive protester raising concerns about the situation in Gaza, the event proceeded smoothly with security promptly escorting the individual out.
In conclusion, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s unwavering stance on immigrant rights and her defiance against threats from immigration hardliners highlight her commitment to advocating for marginalized communities. As she continues to champion progressive policies and defend constitutional rights, Ocasio-Cortez remains a formidable voice in the political landscape.
