UK-France ‘coalition of the willing’ brings together military leaders to devise plan for Ukraine

A new coalition of military officers from the U.K. and France, along with other nations, is coming together to devise a plan for a peacekeeping force in Ukraine. While France and the U.K. have expressed their willingness to send troops, other countries such as Canada, Australia, and Finland are open to being involved as well.
The coalition, led by U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, is now entering its operational phase. The exact number of troops that will be deployed is still uncertain, but officials estimate it will range between 10,000 and 30,000. This initiative comes amidst the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, with the goal of putting Ukraine in a position to secure a just and lasting peace.
President Donald Trump has had discussions with Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron regarding the situation in Ukraine. Trump emphasized the importance of working together to achieve peace in the region. Macron also commended Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his acceptance of the U.S. deal and called for a concrete peace plan that guarantees security for Ukraine and prevents further Russian aggression.
While the coalition of nations is working towards a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, Russia has rejected the idea of NATO troops being stationed in the country. The Kremlin has been vocal about its opposition to Ukraine joining NATO, demanding assurances that Ukraine will not become a member of the alliance. Despite this, Trump has been actively engaged in discussions with Zelenskyy and Putin to end the war and establish lasting peace.
In a recent call with Zelenskyy, Trump described the conversation as “very good” and discussed the alignment of requests and needs with Putin. The White House Press Secretary highlighted the agreement between Trump and Putin that the war in Ukraine must come to an end with a lasting peace, as well as the need for improved U.S.-Russian relations.
As the coalition of nations works towards a peacekeeping solution in Ukraine, the focus remains on achieving a sustainable peace that ensures the security and stability of the region. The efforts of the military officers involved, along with the diplomatic engagements of world leaders, are crucial in bringing an end to the conflict and paving the way for a peaceful future in Ukraine and Europe.
