B.C. friends nab ‘unbelievable’ $1M lotto win

Two Friends Strike Gold with Million Dollar Lottery Win
A stroke of luck has turned two friends from B.C’s Lower Mainland into instant millionaires this holiday season. Wai Hing Yuen and Tang Mei Deng, residents of Vancouver, hit the jackpot with a single lottery ticket they purchased from a small kiosk. The winning ticket was for the Dec. 11 Lotto 6/49 draw, bringing them a hefty sum of $1 million.
Yuen and Deng had been playing the lottery together for about a year and decided to try their luck at a small kiosk located at Champlain Square on Kerr Street in Vancouver. Each friend selected their own set of numbers, which proved to be the winning combination.
The duo only discovered their newfound wealth when they checked their ticket at a shopping mall in Delta. Yuen, in disbelief at first, had Deng verify the win on a self-checker at Tsawwassen Mills. The realization of becoming millionaires left them both ecstatic and overwhelmed.
Deng expressed her disbelief at winning, stating that it felt surreal. She couldn’t wait to share the exciting news with her family, especially her daughter. Yuen, on the other hand, kept the news to himself until collecting their winnings from the lottery corporation.
Despite keeping their windfall a secret, Yuen and Deng have already started planning how to enjoy their newfound riches. Yuen intends to visit Hong Kong, while Deng is looking forward to going on a holiday cruise with a group of friends.
The odds of winning the main Lotto 6/49 jackpot, which involves matching all six numbers drawn without the bonus number, are incredibly slim at approximately one in 14 million, according to the B.C. Lottery Corporation.
