B.C. grandma paints 12-foot Star Wars mural with grandson

DUNCAN, B.C. –

Sandra Kroek reminisces about the days when her children would turn ordinary rakes into lightsabers while helping her clean up the backyard leaves. As an artist, Sandra always preferred paintbrushes over lightsabers, but her perspective changed when her grandson, Remington, entered the picture.

Watching Star Wars movies with Remington sparked a new creative idea for Sandra. After Remington got his hands on realistic lightsabers from Disneyland, the idea of combining his passion for Star Wars with Sandra’s painting skills was born.

Sandra embarked on a project to transform a blank basement wall into a stunning Star Wars mural. From Darth Vader to Kylo Ren, old characters like Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia to new ones like Rey, every detail was meticulously sketched and painted with Remington’s help.

The process of creating the 12-foot-wide mural took 200 hours spread over 18 months. Despite the time and effort invested, Sandra and Remington bonded over the project, creating lasting memories and engaging in deep conversations.

The end result was truly impressive, with Remington expressing a sense of awe at the finished mural. The experience of working together on the project brought them closer and provided them with a special bond that will be cherished for years to come.

Just like finding ‘The Force’ within oneself, Sandra and Remington discovered the power of creativity, collaboration, and family bonds through their Star Wars mural project.
