Bernie Sanders believes Hunter Biden pardon sets a ‘dangerous’ precedent

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., recently shared his thoughts on President Biden potentially pardoning his son Hunter Biden, a topic that has sparked controversy and debate. In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker, Sanders expressed a mix of understanding and concern regarding the situation.

Sanders acknowledged the instinctual desire for a father to protect his family, especially in the face of political attacks. He stated, “When you have his opponents going after his family as a father, as a parent, I think we can all understand Biden trying to protect his son and his family.” However, he also highlighted the potential dangers of setting a precedent for future presidents with such broad pardons.

Despite his reservations about the pardon, Sanders praised Biden for his progressive stance on domestic policies, noting that the economy is currently in a strong position. In fact, Sanders went so far as to compare Biden to one of the most progressive presidents in history, Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The conversation then shifted to the topic of raising the minimum wage, an issue that Sanders has long been passionate about. He expressed willingness to work with President-elect Trump to increase the minimum wage, which has remained stagnant at $7.25 an hour since 2009. Sanders emphasized the urgency of addressing the low minimum wage, stating, “A $7.25 per hour minimum wage is an absolute disgrace.”

Sanders advocated for raising the minimum wage to $17 an hour, citing the struggles of millions of Americans who are unable to make ends meet on their current wages. He called for bipartisan efforts to achieve this goal and improve the lives of working families across the country.
