Former presidents mum following Donald Trump’s inauguration

In a historic moment on Monday, President Trump was inaugurated as the nation’s 46th president, with all four living former presidents – Bill Clinton, George Bush, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden – in attendance. The atmosphere was tense as Trump delivered a politically charged speech about his vision for the future of the country, while the former presidents remained silent on his presidency.
Despite their silence, the former presidents made their presence felt at the ceremony, sitting behind Trump as he took the oath of office. However, none of them offered any public well wishes for the incoming president, and when asked if they planned to release a statement, their offices remained unresponsive.
After the ceremony, Biden addressed his supporters and staffers before boarding a government helicopter to leave Washington, D.C. He assured them that although they were leaving office, they were not leaving the fight.
Former President George W. Bush and former first lady Laura Bush were also in attendance, as well as former President Barack Obama. Former first ladies Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, and Jill Biden were present, but Michelle Obama was notably absent. Sources close to her revealed that she chose to skip the inauguration due to her disdain for the Republican president-elect.
During his speech, Trump took aim at Biden without mentioning him by name, claiming that his election was a mandate to reverse past betrayals and restore faith, wealth, democracy, and freedom to the people. He also criticized Biden’s last-minute actions as president, particularly his pardons of individuals involved in the January 6th Capitol riot.
In a surprising move, Biden preemptively pardoned members of the January 6th House Select Committee, along with Dr. Anthony Fauci and former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Mark Milley. He also shielded his siblings and their spouses from any potential prosecution just moments before leaving the White House.
Despite the tension and political animosity between the former presidents and the new administration, a moment of camaraderie was captured between Obama and Trump at the funeral of late President Jimmy Carter. They were seen chatting and laughing, setting aside their differences for a brief moment.
As the nation transitions to a new era under President Trump, the actions and reactions of the former presidents serve as a reminder of the complex and often contentious nature of American politics.
