Bombers overwhelm Riders, advance to 5th straight Grey Cup game

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers put on a dominant performance in the CFL West Division final, defeating the Saskatchewan Roughriders 38-22 to secure their fifth consecutive trip to the Grey Cup. Quarterback Zach Collaros shined, throwing four touchdown passes, three of which were caught by wide receiver Kenny Lawler. The Blue Bombers will now face the Argonauts in Vancouver on Nov. 17 after Toronto’s victory over the Montreal Alouettes in the East Division final.

The Blue Bombers had a rocky start to the season, going 0-4 before turning things around and finishing with eight consecutive wins to claim the top spot in the division. Lawler was a standout player in the game, recording four receptions for 177 yards in front of a sold-out crowd at Princess Auto Stadium. Collaros finished with an impressive stat line of 19-of-26 passing for 301 yards with no interceptions.

Running back Brady Oliveira also had a strong performance, scoring on a three-yard burst and totaling 119 yards on 20 carries. Kicker Sergio Castillo contributed with a field goal and five converts for Winnipeg. On the other side, Saskatchewan’s Trevor Harris threw for 283 yards with no interceptions, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Bombers’ dominant performance.

The Bombers led from start to finish, taking a 14-3 lead after the first quarter and extending it to 24-9 at halftime. They continued to control the game, with Lawler scoring his second touchdown on a 24-yard pass from Collaros in the second quarter. The Roughriders tried to stay in the game with field goals from Brett Lauther, but the Bombers’ offense was too much to handle.

In the end, the Bombers’ defense held strong, with key plays from players like Tyrell Ford to secure the victory. With this win, the Bombers have now advanced to five straight Grey Cup games, joining rare company in CFL history. They will be looking to capture their third Grey Cup title in the past five years, hoping to avenge their losses in the past two championship games.

Overall, the Blue Bombers put on a masterful performance in the West Division final, showcasing their dominance on both sides of the ball. With their eyes set on the Grey Cup, they will be looking to carry this momentum into the championship game and bring home another title to Winnipeg.
